Do you love houseplants? Do you want to have more plants? Grow flowers, herbs, vegetables, and even fruit?
I get to talk to a lot of people about their plant life. Very often I find that people love traditional houseplants but stop there. They limit themselves because they live in a small space. Does that sound like you?
If so, let's end that now!
I am devoting the entire 2020 gardening season to the topic of edible houseplants. We will cover all the fundamental topics (garden design, supplies, light, soil, watering, fertilizer, pests, harvesting, (etc.). If you want to grow edibles but have been putting it off until you get your dream backyard, wait no longer.
To get started let’s clarify what edible houseplants are and who will benefit from this series. I define edible houseplants as any plant you grow in or around your home to eat.
This series will apply to you if:
You do not have any outdoor space. You only have indoor space in which to grow plants.
You have indoor space and a small amount of outdoor space (patio, balcony, railing, porch).
You have indoor space and a front or backyard but will grow food primarily in containers or raised beds.
If you have space for row crop gardening, this series can still help you if you are a beginner. The fundamental aspects of how to grow food are the same. The tips shared will help you get your new garden off to a great start.
You are familiar with gardening but want to learn environmentally-friendly gardening techniques. Everything we do at Hortiki is built on principles of environmental sustainability. We welcome you to share your expertise and are happy to help with any advanced questions you may have.
You may benefit more from other resources if:
You only want to grow traditional, non-edible houseplants.
You are an advanced gardener with a large garden or small farm.
You hate plants. (Just kidding. There’s no such thing as hating plants).
I really hope that this series will help and encourage you to go edible. Get started with our fun, quick, quiz that addresses common barriers to edibles.
